Everyone’s favourite venue owner, Craig Martell of Wunderbar, is expanding his sphere of influence.
He’s taken on duties as one of the talent buyers for the Starlite Room and its basement dweller, Brixx Bar & Grill. His first show, featuring Wares, Worst Days Down and Calgary’s Napalmpom, is TONIGHT at Brixx. (Friday, Feb. 13.) Doors at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15. Address: 10030 102nd St.
Martell is one of the co-owners of Wunderbar, a tiny, rundown Whyte Avenue venue which features some of the best up ‘n’ coming local and Canadian acts. Unfortunately, there’s not much money in running a venue for these acts, so he’s had to branch out in order to eke out a living. Ergo, Starlite Room/Brixx. (Bigger rooms, bigger acts, slightly bigger paydays.)
Martell and his partners also put Wunderbar up for sale last year. He’s still booking for Wundi while it’s still on the market.
